Stephen Spinella won two Tony and Drama Desk Awards for the original Broadway production of Tony Kushner’s two-part epic Angels in America. Spinella has since starred on Broadway in revivals of A View from the Bridge, Electra, and Our Town with Paul Newman; and James Joyce’s The Dead with Christopher Walken, which earned him another Tony nomination, a third Drama Desk award, as well as an Outer Critics Circle award. In the 2006-2007 season he was in the smash-hit Spring Awakening that season’s winner of the Tony for Best Musical. In 2014 he appeared opposite Estelle Parsons in The Velocity of Autumn. His feature credits include Roger Spottiswoode’s Emmy Award-winning telefilm And the Band Played On; Brett Leonard’s Virtuosity; Michael Caton-Jones’ The Jackel; Alfonso Cuaron’s Great Expectations; Tim Robbins’ Cradle Will Rock; Blair Hayes’ cult movie Bubble Boy, with Jake Gyllenhaal; Michael Lembeck’s Connie and Carla; Gus Van Zant’s award winning bio-pic Milk; Quentin Dupieux’ Rubber; and Lincoln directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Daniel Day Lewis. He has spent two seasons recurring as Russell Berger in the perennial summer hit Royal Pains and is currently a recurring character on Steven Soderbergh’s The Knick and is in rehearsals for Classic Stage Company’s production of Hamlet starring Peter Sarsgaard and directed by Austin Pendleton.
